Why do we all have different phobias? what makes us have these phobias?
For example, iam scared of spiders but ive never had an awful experience involving spiders i just really dont like them and do have a phobia of them.
Alot of people with phobias have no rational reason for being scared of that object or whatever, i just dont understand what causes human beings to have these phobias.
I know lots of people have had bad experiences with the phobic object but then alot of people havent.
Is it just one of those unexplainable things?

One time i was laying in my bed trying to sleep and out of no where i feel something quickly crawl across my lower legs. I jump out of bed, turn on the light and i see a cockroach running straight for my closet. I smashed that mother f***er with my sandal repeatedly even after i knew it was dead. I can’t stand insects especially when they crawl in my bed!
It’s a survival instinct. We are afraid of predators because our ancestors were. If they weren’t, they would be easier prey for those animals. So the ones that were afraid survive and pass on those genetic codes. Our brains also use life experiences to make survival instincts for individuals. These can sometimes take the form of a phobia.
Yep, research has suggested that we fear creatures that can cause us harm & that our fears are part of a defence mechanism which was originally linked to the survival of our species. You’ve said yourself that this is a phobia & therefore by definition would be irrational- but somewhere during your life you’ve learnt to associate spiders with fear, & have chosen (up until now) to ignore it. Try looking online at a thing called systematic desensitisation, a technique used to break down faulty learning (in this case association of a spider with a feeling of fear) and replace it with new learning (being relaxed around them).
Hope that helps (:
