My daughter is bipolar and it is a chemical imbalance that causes it. It is a very difficult diagnosis to make and it took my daughter about 8 years to get it. It was also more of a problem with her as she was under 18 and no one wanted to place a label like that on such a young child.
One of the biggest problems is even when diagnosed, the medication is pretty awful. It helps to repress anger when it surfaces but also "numbs" all of your emotions, so happiness is also numbed. It is extremely common for them to go off of their meds.
A bipolar person can function for months with them being the most wonderful gentle people but when an "episode" comes on it is a completely different person. Cruel and viscous, they will make comments like daggers, as well violence is very common. I have had to lay on my back with my arms and legs wrapped around my daughter for upwards of an hour and had bite and claws marks everywhere by the end.
I am sure some people with "anger management" issues are in fact people with many different problems bipolar being one of them.
A place to start is with your family doctor who can refer you to a specialist if you had concerns.
If you have any other questions you can e-mail me here and I can try to provide more information. Living with a bipolar person can be atrocious, being one I imagine is infinitely worse.
bipolar is you being emotional, really sad really mad really happy anger is just being mad
"Anger management issues" basically just means that when you get mad, you have trouble working your feelings out in a mature, calm, responsible way.
"Bipolar disorder" is much more serious- it is when you suffer from extreme anger then abrupt periods of elation, almost to the point of "mania". As I previously said, bipolar is very serious (even if it doesn’t seem to be), so you should talk to your parents, a trusted teacher or guidance counselor to get professional help if you think you have bipolar. Bipolar can only be diagnosed by a psychologist/ psychiatrist or other doctor.
Good luck!
Only a psychiatrist can diagose you with Bi-polar and it is an actual serious mood disorder that requires medication. Anger management issues can usually be helped with therapy and some behavioral management strategies.
