You are describing hallucinations in the first case. Neither hallucinations nor paranoid delusions are typical of bipoar disorder.
There are two possibilities; this person is having a schizophrenic or schizo-affective phsycosis; or possibly it can be brought on by medication interactions, side effects, or med toxicity.
I would say that person is a danger to him or herself & others, if having hallucinations & especially when paranoid.
I have seen and heard of paranoid persons doing really frightnening and dangerous things.

Please seek help immediately for this person, and/ or get far away and make sure any children are out of his or her home.

Yes. It is very difficult to be an effective care giver when you have serious mental health problems. If reality is distorted in any way, it is challenging to be a good parent. Seeking help through a good therapist or psychiatrist would be helpful. Many bipolar patients don’t want to take medication for various reasons, but it can help many to have a better quality of life. make sure the children are with a safe adult for now

yes…it will get worse if left untreated…..and the person themselvves as well as those around them are in danger if untreated, as the preson may behave in a way they wouldn’t normally that may put people at risk….ie…crossing a road when there’s not enough time etc……
The paranoia almost sounds like there are additional aspects to this disorder rather than straight bi polar…….
Please seek help, and don’t feel discouraged!
    Good luck

Medication can reduce or eliminate the symptoms. Children could be at risk if the symptoms are untreated, especially if the parent increases risk behaviours or the psychosis involves the child. It is very important to see a doctor if it seems the bipolar illness is not fully controlled or one is experiencing symptoms such as hearing voices. Mental illness untreated can cause brain damage making the illness more difficult to treat over time.

ive been diagnosed bipolar for 8 years,,,,,, within the first year i was hospitalized–(due to risk of harming myself)—- there i "de-compensated" meaning i was hallucinating- hearing sirens- thinking my mother had angel wings…..so basically bith autitory and visual–
i am schizo-affective – meaning w/o meds– my anti – psychotics, my symptoms will return. unlike schiphrenia- i know that my hallucinations are Not reality.

As far as sarfty- when i was back home- doing very bad– i told my mom (who works nights) to hide all the knives in the house— in case something were to happen and i’d want to hurt my father. freaked everyone out…….. and i dont even remember it. ive been a cutter for 14 years ( thankfully been injury free for 22 months now) so it was always assumed the only danger i would exhibit would be toward

PLEASE get treatment— Especially if u r concerned about safety.
