How my sister’s friend overcome his panic disorder

My sister’s friend Vito (name has been changed) needed anxiety relief fast! He had just suffered from a mental breakdown and was taken to a psychiatrist who prescribed drugs and brought his condition under control.

The breakdown was caused by the stress of the dealing with agoraphobia.

Once he had fully recovered, he was recommended to see a psychologist.

Following a series of visits, the psychologist observed from what the patient said that the mother was possessive. She was holding on to tight to her son. This was a man around 30years of age.

The psychologist recommended that the mother give her grown up son some breathing space but she was not ready to entertain this. Eventually she caved in.

After a few months of breathing space, Vito’s panic disorder disappeared.

With the agoraphobia cured, he started having a more active social life. Prior to the breakdown, symptoms of anxiety were all over him and he gradually became a recluse.

What do you learn from the above? That possessiveness by others or subtle abuse is a primary cause of agoraphobia and panic disorders.

Many parents, guardians, spouses and so forth may desire to have a powerful control over us and such people flee. This hold leaves one confused and with a deep inferiority complex.

My sister’s friend was fortunate that he was able to extract his hold from his possessive mother.

My sister’s friend is Italian and Italian mothers are notorious for being possessive.

The last I heard of Vito ( name has been changed) was that he sent my sister a card and finished his greeting with “Lost of love”. (He is Italian)

I am sure he is doing okay!
