How hard is it to recover from an eating disorder?
I am going to start seeing an eating disorder specialist next week and eventually do a partial hospitalization program possibly. How hard is it to recover from anorexia or an eating disorder not otherwise specified (EDNOS)? Does the therapy really help? What exactly happens in treatment that helps? Do they make you force yourself to eat?

Well an eating disorder is an addiction, an addiction to being skinny.
I am not familar with the exact treatment, but if you refuse to eat while under the treatment they will put a feeding tube in so you can gain weight.
To be perfectly honest I’ve never had an eating disorder, but this piece of advice is universal:
Anything worth doing is hard.
It will be hard, but if you really want to recover then you will.
just as hard as it is to recover from a scraped knee.
It really depends on you, and how long you’ve had your EDO for. It does help to talk to a therapist, but ultimately its really based on your motivation to recover, but I think, from my own personal expirience, that recovery is hard.
In treatment you are sutounded by peers who are going through the same thing, and often they become a really great support system. Inpatient programs can actually be fun, though, because you become close to people. It depends on, again, your own situation. In most cases, you are forced to eat everything, and then gradually htey give you more freedom. A dietition designs your meal plan
I’m going through the same thing. I’m in a eating disorder program and it’s very difficult. I have to drink 4 weight gain supplements every day and I have to finish all or most of my food or I have to write 2 pages on what i was feeling at the time. I have very supportive peers though that are going through the same things. I’ve also been in the hospital with a feeding tube because I almost died. Therapy for me has helped but it really depends on the patient/therapist relationship. In my treatment program we have all different groups like Body Image, Nutrition, Yoga, Self Care and Spirituality. I’ve had anorexia for about a year and it’s truly an addiction. It’s a much more difficult addiction than alcohol or substance abuse because an alcoholic doesn’t need alcohol to survive but people need food to survive. I wake up every morning and try to make it through the day and it is a challenge. If you want your health and life back and want recovery, then go for it! I just want to say that it takes hard work and determination but you can do it. Have faith.
