i don’t know . people say face ur fears, but i see cows, spiders and daddylonglegs every day , i’m facing them but i’m not overcoming my overwhelming fear of them!
see a hypnotist, can work. I actually have a fear of many things, particularly flying, but overcome it by blocking the image of what it is or where i am, normally works.
yes speaking to the right people, as in people who have experienced what you are right now, but have over come there fear, find out how they did it!!
There are virtual reality devices , where you can simulate being near a chasm , or on a building etc.
Ask your GP , or look for info on places that offer such services.
Also , if you can solve the underlying cause , that would work too.. but that is much more work.
Your husband is right but only in a controlled condition and with help. do it in small steps and with the help of a therapist that is schooled in Cognitive Behavioral therapy. Most phobias can be overcome when we learn to deal with our fears.
If this phobia really bothers you, it means you have to see a clinical psychologist. She/he will offer you therapy that suits to you. It can be psychoanalysis therapy, cognitive therapy or other kinds of therapies. Talk to them and don’t be shame of this phobia. Lots of people have their own, including me
You could see a hypnotist or try going on something really high and looking down and keep doing that because you might overcome it.
I must be the only person who actually LOVE heights. You are missing out on fantastic views if you can’t come to grips with heights.
Maybe the trick to getting around is to love it. For example, I love skyscrapers. I love how I am up so high that I can experience a majestic view of horizons far away and whatever it is at the bottom. And the fact that I am closer to the sky than I was at the ground.
Your husband is absolutely right you have to face your fears , I suggest you watch the movie " What about Bob " .
face your fear SLOWLY, i don’t suggest that you go ride a airplane now thinking that may solve the problem, because Airplane can stay for hours on the sky, you will be freaked out by then, you need slowly solution, such as go to these fun rides (not the dangerous one) at Walt Disney or Cedar Point, or enjoy a dinner at a restaurant on the top of a mountain , do it step by step.
Ummm, you could try operant conditioning, it’s when you use reinforcement and punishment to develop or get rid of phobias.
In your case, you should probably try a therapy – I heard it works. Then, when you think you’ve got better, try walking over a rope bridge and look down. It might sound scary first but it certainly works.
Hope this helps and good luck.
