Jason doesn’t really know what he’s talking about. A person with Agoraphobia can’t go outside they are not only afraid of of others so much as they are afriad of losing control in front of others. Agoraphobia starts with a person having panic and anxiety attacks in public and being humiliated by them. In order to prevent this from happening they stop going into situations that might cause them to have panic attacks or anxiety attacks. Since it’s going into public that and having an attack that they can’t control they stop going out. I know agoraphobics who have not gone out side their house or apartment for years. Before they had the internet you would have a friend or family member do the things like shopping and taking care of things that couldn’t be taken care of inside the house. Now you can order things over the internet. I had a friend who’s mother never came to any of her school functions because she couldn’t leave the house. It can be helped if you can find a therapist who will go to the house and help the person dealing with it.
I’ve ran across two people who supposedly had this and I personally feel it is a made up fear. Both of them, one of them young and their parents made it up for them, functioned fine and only used it to collect welfare and I believe anyone else who says they have it is probably doing the same thing. They just don’t want to deal with the realities of life and are seeking a free ride. Having a fear of water is a legitmate fear, but fear of people/crowds? Give me a break. Instead of giving them money for their supposed problem, I say they push them out into life and tell them, there are over 6 billion and counting people living with you, deal with it.
