How do I go about getting new medicine for anxiety?
I am diagnosed with social anxiety and panic attacks. I was put on Zoloft 50 mgs by my doc about 5 months ago. My anxiety is still there and same with panic attacks. I THINK the Zoloft may even be increasing my anxiety, for lately it is out of control. A close family member gives me Xanax occasionally, and I take when needed. Such as when my anxiety gets bad when I have to go to the store or a social outting. AND it works wonders. It doesnot have to be xanax, I just DONT understand why I was put on Zoloft something i have to take everyday, and perfer not to do, rather then something that I can take when needed?
I am looking for something, not for depression for I know I AM NOT depressed and i always do not want something to take everyday. Just when needed.
Thanks Meg. Yes I do not want to be precieved as a "druggie" I just want help to control my anxiety. I am willing to continue the everday antidepressant. I just did something to assist the social anixety and panic attacks. I do admitt, the Zoloft in the past months has lighten my moods.

Ask your doctor to switch your medication. Paxil is effective and can be combined with Seraquel to treat conditions such as yours. Let your doctor know Zoloft is not helping you.
Yes, your doctor put you on the wrong antidepressant. You need Paxil. Did you tell your doctor you have anxiety problems? I asked my doctor for Zoloft and he said that wont help me and put me on Paxil. Warning tho….it kills the sex drive.
My sister told me about a natural remedy called SAMe. Google it and see what you think. You can get it at any heath food store and maybe your grocery store. I havent tried it myself yet but am thinking of doing it (because of the sex thing).
It sounds as though you either need to increase your dose of Zoloft to 100mgms, or ask you doctor to change your medication. You should not be taking other peoples medication. Anxiety itself is actually quite hard to treat other than by just giving you tranquillizers. Go back to your doctor and see what he says.
Good luck.
