How can you get a diagnosis of bipolar, if you cycle within a day without week long episodes?
You know short but intense moods or episodes, that come and go. I think I’ve got this, my dad has bipolar disorder, by I’ve realised this really fast form of cycling isn’t in the DSM-IV or any other diagnostic book.
They say they won’t treat me until I’ve got a diagnosis.

See a psychiatrist who specializes in mood disorders. Ultradian cycling does happen, it’s just very rare for adults. Young kids, it’s not so uncommon. It’s possible you have it, or have something else going on. Ppl with bipolar can experience something that’s called a mixed state, depression and hypo/mania happening at the same time. This is more common and can appear like rapid cycling. No one here can say what’s up, so if you are seriously questioning, go see a professional.
You don’t have to have episodes all the time it depends on your chemical balance my sister is bipolar and she had crazy episodes when she was younger but now she did really great for like 2 years and is having episodes again best thing I can say is if someone thinks you are truely bipolar get it checked out now before it possibly spins out of control it can truly effect your life!!! Good luck!!
Is a Diagnosis what you want? Leave that to the Docs. The important thing is that you are receiving and taking treatment for your symptoms. Bi Polar is not usually clearly diagnosed until late, after some years of presentations because the symptoms are not always as clear as DSM. That doesn’t prevent you getting the right treatment. Because in psychiatry it is the symptoms that are treated, not the Diagnosis.
ADDED It is pretty common for Psych Services not to treat people without an Axis 1 Diagnosis. If not their services would be rapidly consumed by people with Axis 2 symptoms, personality and behavior based issues which have poor response rate to psychiatry. You wont debate yourself into a different diagnosis, CBT might help.
I would go to a person who works in that field, because there is different types of bipolar, bipolar 1, common mood swings in a day, and bipolar 2 when happy for say a month, then sad the next.
