How can you diagnose someone as bipolar?
I think I may be bipolar… I’m always switching between depression and everything is ok moods. For example, sometimes I’m depressed and think oh my friend hates me and never wants to talk to me again, and sometimes I feel like he’ll come around sometime let him be and I’m happy thinking everything is going to be ok. Is this bipolar or moodswings or what?

first of all bipola is a fancey word that doctors in the usa give to ppl who dont have a diagnoseable problem but dont have enough issues to be classed as a mental health problem. bipolar is more than feeling low and changes through many different symtoms. your just another pearson who thinks he may be not right in the head. your just thinking to much about stuff which is making you sad. or u can see a doctor to find out and he will probs say ur bipolar and give your some shit to make you stop thinking about stuff. ull then go on a high maybe to much of a high and you could end up with a real problem of consantly switching between drug which will go on for the rest of your life just so doctors can make more money when theres probs nothing wrong with you. just ask yourself to u really care about most of the stuff you think about. if yes and it bothers you then turn to weed but dont run to a doctor coz hell only make you worse
You are good to ask yourself the question and it’s also good you are aware of your feelings. You should see either a psychologist, who may refer you to a psychiatrist (for medication) or for more intensive treatments. As far as the diagnosis, it doesn’t just happen in one or two meetings with a professional. Keep a journal, be careful not to take what you’ve read and then "sway" the conversations in that direction (I’ve been there…thinking I had bipolar). Professionals will use something called the DSM, short for the Diagnostic and Statistics Manual, which will categorize symptoms/behavior as well as observable traits into respective axis(es). This gives the diagnoses. The important thing to remember is there is no physical differential for mental illnesses. You can have one mental illness that looks a lot like another, or you can have two or more (co-morbid) disorders. Patience is key, assertiveness is also necessary. Take care!
"hughfly" is an idiot and clearly knows nothing about the diagnosis and management of bipolar disorder.
Switching " between depression and everything is ok mode" is not typical for any form of bipolar disorder. However, a mental health professional (psychiatrist or clinical psychologist) must be the one to diagnose, not somebody on YA.
