How can I privately get help with my eating disorder?
I am a sixteen year old girl. I already tried to get into therapy and my parents allowed it for 2 sessions. They pulled me out because we can’t afford it right now and they don’t think I need anyone’s help because I’m not "problematic."
I have an eating disorder and its leaving me mentally paralyzed and I simply cannot take it anymore. I need help. But I can’t have my parents or money involved. What is there to do? A school counselor? Someone please help me. I can’t do this any longer.

Congratulations on taking the first steps toward recovery and looking for help. I would suggest that before you look for more help, you talk to your parents about the impact that your eating disorder is having on you, give them factual information about the seriousness of eating disorders, ask them if a therapist or nutritionist could be billed through insurance, and explain to them why you think you need help. If you have insurance, the therapist should be able to charge the insurance, not your parents. Some insurances only cover for a certain number of sessions, and others have very limited mental health coverage, but you might be able to see a nutritionist despite not being able to see a therapist. A nutritionist will really be able to help you to realize what healthy eating means and how you can adjust your eating to become healthier and happier. Also, there are sometimes free eating disorder support groups which you might be able to attend. If there are none in your area, you could consider joining an online support group for people recovering from eating disorders. You also might want to check out books from your library about eating disorders so that you can become more informed about the causes, effects and treatments of eating disorders. Another way you can help yourself is to recognize what caused your eating disorder and take steps to deal with that problem. Eating disorders are commonly caused by other mental health problems, traumatic events, perfectionism, need for control, low self-esteem and/or bad body image. By taking steps to deal with any issues causing your eating disorder, you will make it easier to deal with the eating disorder itself. You should also take steps to recognize things that "trigger" your eating disorder and make you want to restrict your caloric intake or purge. If you recognize when this is most likely to happen, you can take steps to deal with this. You might also find it helpful to set goals for yourself in recovery, like trying to eat a certain amount more every day or being less strict with yourself about calorie-counting. Recovery is a very long, slow process, but you can do it! Try to gradually increase your calorie intake to stabilize your weight (and if you’re underweight, then try to aim for weight gain). Get support from your friends and family and consider talking to a guidance counselor at school about your eating disorder if you don’t have a therapist available to you. Become more informed about healthy eating, recognize your eating disorder behaviors and don’t give up.
I’m anorexic and in recovery, and if you need someone to talk to for support or advice or if you have any questions about recovery, my email is laurelle117@yahoo.com
I hope that I helped, and good luck with your recovery
Im an expert with problematic issues like this.. if you like, you could send me an email, and i’ll do my best to help you out.
there are online support groups, talking to your guidance councilor is a good start. Your local hospital may have a free program.
Don’t worry there is help out there and a lot of it is free, nobody wants to see a young girl suffer.. ask others for help as you are here and it will work out.
good luck
Tell your parents to tell your doctor to send you to a therapy’s and they’ll bill your health insurance instead of your parents but it has to be some one the insurance goes through
if it was the 70′s i’d say go to a counsler. but now schools are so quick to deam kids intolerable, it’s crazy. plus school counslers are required to tell principals about such conflicts, which is not keeping your privacy. you might want to look for hotlines on the internet. or search forums about girls with previous eating disorders, or currently. i believe if people with the same promblem get together they can solve the problem more effectively. plus you can make a phony screen name and go anonomyous from there.
a school counselor or a recovered ana if you can find one on the web
