Can an employer discriminate against a bipolar person in the health field, such as nursing?
I was recently informed that a doctor cannot practice medicine if he/she is on antipsychotics. I want to go into nursing field but I was diagnosed with Bipolar I one year ago; I’m fearful that I will work so hard to become a nurse only to be denied because of my illness. Is that reasoning for not hiring someone legally sound? Thank you.

yes, an employer can, because you may not be able to do the job, especially life of patient is at stake
Your medical history is your private information. You don’t have to tell them you are bipolar. As long as you are managing your condition and your behaviors are safe, there is absolutely nothing prohibiting you from becoming a nurse. I have bipolar disorder and am an RN, it doesn’t matter what meds I’m taking as long as I am stable, I can practice. And even if I became unstable, as long as I seek treatment for myself and don’t do anything that jeopardized patient safety, they still could not fire me just for being bipolar and needing stabilization. That would be discrimination.
never.
No. You dont have to tell anyone anything, listen to the Nurse up there, she knows what shes talking about. If they do a physical for school and say youre fit for the course, then you are fit for the course. Simple as that.
Why the hell would they even know what you have? Do you blab it during an interview or something?
