Can a cat have an eating disorder?
I got my cat from the Humane Society last year after they rescued him from the pound. He has gotten quite fat because he eats all the time. I limit the amount of cat food I give him based on what his vet recommended but he will clear a plate and eat bread whenever he gets a chance. He also meows as if he’s hungry constantly until feeding time. When I let him outside he goes on killing sprees. Can he have an eating disorder because he went hungry before being rescued? I searched cat eating disorders and got back people who EAT cats.

Can a Owner have a Feeding disorder?
Yes a cat can.
Yes a cat can have an eating disorder. Did your vet take a blood sample and check your cat thyroid level. Also there are plenty of cat food that are low calorie diet for cats like yours. I would try to just feed him once or twice a day and only a measured amount with no canned food or treats.
Take your cat to the vet. They may prescribe Prescription Diet Feline R/D to help with weight reduction.
I have a butterball myself.
I also have a bulemic. Makes getting up in the morning fun.
some animals, when they have a period of not having a reliable source of food, develop the habit of gorging on food when it is available. The need for food is one of primary importance, so if a cat spends some of its younger time having to go without food regularly, they can develop a habit of getting upset when food is not always present. I’ve had several strays that were that way. The best thing that you can do is monitor his daily intake, and try to keep him busy by hiding small amounts of food in unexpected places for him to find. This might help with boredom, and might keep him out of your hair. Be patient with him. He doesn’t know that he doesn’t have to worry about where his next meal is coming from.
It’s funny we had a cat that was kind of the opposite, i mean she would eat but then she would throw up, she would throw up after almost every meal, we used to joke that it was bulimia. We got her as a stray during a stormy night she was outside our local gas station. She was fully grown but the size of maybe a 6 month old kitten. She never got much bigger, the vet said that since she had been malnutritioned she would always be small and that she probably just ate too much for her body to handle. So there is probably an underlying issue with your cat. it could be depressed or bored. i would talk to your vet.
