BipolaR………….?
im wondering what exactly bipolar is and what it does to you? i read some things on the enternet, but i cant really get it though my head very well and i want to know from peoples opinion as well.
i also think that i might be bipolar, or just depressed
no, no one really says anything. except for my brother, hes always saying that im depressed or something. and that i never smile unless he says something about someone that i like, which is true. usually i never smile unless that person comes up in the conversation
well sometimes i get REALLY mad, but then when something funny happens or something i start to laugh so hard. when that happened, my mom looked at me like something weird happened

bipolar = two poles
one being mania when you feel as happy as happy can be and full of so much energy you just don’t know what to do with it, you can’t keep still, you don’t stop taking, your thoughts are all over the place and people find it hard to keep up with you, you have no need for sleep or need very little and are not tired even when you just get a couple of hours.
depression is the opposite of all of that, you sleep to much, cry a lot more, feel worthless and empty, you like to lock yourself away from the world and just generally don’t see the point in doing anything.

bipolar is a "term" used to describe people who have perceived mental illness. You are NOT bi-polar and don’t you dare say that again!
bipolar means you behave in 2 ways..sometimes happy and sometimes sad.always in extremes of either.
Bipolar is when you have frequent episodes of extreme happiness/sadness/anger/etc. Basically, you’re really moody.
Technically it’s caused by a chemical imbalance in your brain, usually serotonin and dopamine. Think of the chemicals and neurons like keys trying to fit in a keyhole; people without bipolar have a bunch of the receptors going into their keyholes, but with bipolar (or depression or anxiety) some of those things just don’t match up.
Talk to your doctor if you really think you’re bipolar or depressed, they can diagnose you and prescribe drugs to restore your chemical balance. Basically you’d feel really sad and lethargic sometimes and really overly happy/excited sometimes for no reason.
Sad you feel that way, but bipolar i would say is a bit far-fetched… I did my research paper on bipolar disorder- also called dissociative identity disorder, or Multiple personality disorder. Simply it is characterized by a person having very drastic mood swings(sometimes even he doesnt realize it) And most times he does not remember things he did when he was in another "mood". People have been known to kill or steal when they were in one state and don’t remember what they did when they change back. Scientists say that it is actually caused by some form of childhood abuse that the kid shuts the pain out and become "another person" and if this happens too often then many "people" are formed within him, and these are called "alters". Sorry for the long explanation, i just found this rather interesting when i was researching it…

bipolar is a condition when one minute you are happy and the next minute you could be down in tears and feel very suckish. your moods go back and forth and side 2 side and all the ways u can imagine you cannot control it.
depression is a condition is not like bipolar. bipolar is when ur moods go wacky but depression ur either angry or sad and stay that way. with depression u may experience suicidal thoughts or may experience hatred towards stuff you used 2 love, laziness, useless or just, crappy. with depression, you hardly feel happy, mostly, shallow, with bipolar disorder, you experience every mood you can imagine sometimes in a short period of time.

Bipolar disorder is a mood disorder, and people can go from depressed to a "high" or manic state… this state can be mildly high or over the top.
People with bipolar disorder can be diagnosed with only one or two episodes of mania in their life, as well… depression seems to be the bigger symptom, along with anxiety.
Mania can bring on talkativeness, lack of impulse control (like overspending or drinking too much), loss of sleep, change in appetite, as im sure you have read. A person can also become agitated when manic. Or aggressive.
Depression gives one a hopeless feeling, sad, lonely as well.
People can "normalize" too — and go through long periods of time symptom free.
There are many symptoms of bipolar disorder. And everyone has their own, unique set of symptoms and behaviors.
The person who said depression is NOT LIKE bipolar disorder was right, but DEPRESSION IS A SYMPTOM of bipolar disorder, and bipolars can experience quite a lot of depression.
If you are concerned about your mental health, see your doctor. That is the first step.

Ok first of all you need to see a dr. that has experience with BP. The reason i say that is its important that they have dealt with it regularly and not just a few cases so you get good diag. and treatment. I was or am married to a bipolar that we are going to divorce. I guess whats really important to understand is in the majority of cases it can be managed. I can not stress how important it is to you and those you care about if diagnosed that you take your meds. My wife was medicated for almost 5 years and life was good. She went off them and is doing things that would make most people ashamed. The chemical ballance in a bipolar persons brain causes this to manifest itself. Instead of being what we consider normal a bipolar has extreem swings of mood and poor judgement, like someone overly intoxicated you cant reason with them. I hope this helps if you get diag. The life of the bipolar can best be described as being to one extreme or the other. Sometimes you can find a middle ground, but how often that happens depends on the person, their surroundings, and whether or not they are stable by medication. A bipolar can go from being extremely happy and over the top to feeling suicidal in a matter of moments. Others may stay manic for days, weeks, months, and I have even heard years and then fall into a sudden depth of depression and stay there for the same amount of time. Many bipolars find themselves prone to suicidal thoughts and many do follow through. That is one way that they may find themselves hospitalized and diagnosed or may return to the hospital as they have relapsed because of stopping medication or something dramatic throws them off course. Bipolars have a greater incidence of being addicted to drugs and alcohol as they look to it to bring on mania, which is the high energy, euphoric, and on top of the world that they feel while in this state. Mania is not always a good thing though as it causes lack of sleep, sometimes several days, a short temper, lack of patience, and behaviors one would usually not participate then. It increases sex drive which you may think is good but it can lead to promiscuous behavior which has its own negative effects such as diseases, embarrassment, and loss of a lover or spouse. Many bipolars have found themselves in bad situations because of something they did while in mania whether it be financial, emotional, or illegal. People with bipolar almost always seek treatment when they are in the depressed state as it is like hitting rock bottom. The saying goes, what comes up must come down, and does it ever!! Its easier to get someone bipolar to go for treatment when in the depressed state as when manic, they do not think they have a problem..that is until they fall back down and look at the self-destructive behavior they have been a part of. The most dangerous time for the bipolar is a period called the "mixed state". That is when mania and depression crosses and the person experiences both at the same time. A person who is depressed enough to commit suicide suddenly may find the courage to follow through as it is fueled by the impulsiveness of mania. Bipolar or manic depression has been thrown around too easily over the past few years and some doctors diagnose a person way too quickly without merit. Some people who are not bipolar use it as an excuse for bad behavior as some people who are bipolar do the same thing. Responsibility for your actions is the key. Bipolars who learn the signs of upcoming changes and are prepared and willing to do what it takes to get back on track can live a half way normal life. Those who do not never find happiness in relationships, friends, or in life.
