No. Cutting is a sign that there is probably some mental disorder present, but not necessarily bipolar. Some people who cut are bipolar, but it’s not a specified symptom, like it is for borderline personality disorder.

Um in a word, no. Bipolar is a separate disorder for which self harming may or may not be present as a symptom and counter productive coping mechanism from depression.

Well, having a mental health illness does increase your chances of cutting yourself, so I guess it could go both ways. Oftentimes Borderline Personality Disorder is misdiagnosed as Bipolar, and Borderline p.d. people often do cut themselves.

So I guess there is no real answer, but my theory would be that cutters are more likely to have bipolar than the general population, but there isn’t likely to be more bipolar cutters then social anxiety cutters or OCD cutters, you know what I mean?

I hope that made sense, I am getting pretty tired lol.

self mutilation has nothing to do with bipolar, bipolar is an imbalance in the brains chemicals.

So no. But you are probably depressed and insecure and have a bad self esteem if you are cutting yourself.

but it can cause more depresion in your life.
