does cutting yourself increase your chances of possibly having bipolar disorder?

Well, having a mental health illness does increase your chances of cutting yourself, so I guess it could go both ways. Oftentimes Borderline Personality Disorder is misdiagnosed as Bipolar, and Borderline p.d. people often do cut themselves.
So I guess there is no real answer, but my theory would be that cutters are more likely to have bipolar than the general population, but there isn’t likely to be more bipolar cutters then social anxiety cutters or OCD cutters, you know what I mean?

self mutilation has nothing to do with bipolar, bipolar is an imbalance in the brains chemicals.

Cutting yourself is not necessarily related to bipolar disorder. Bipolar disorder is characterized by having two mood extremes. On one end of it you feel extremely good and grandiose, and on the other end you feel depressed.
Cutting can mean many different things to different people. Although it is often times an effective coping mechanism for the person who uses it, it is ultimately a harmful coping mechanism. Someone who is bipolar may or may not cut themselves. If you think you have bipolar disorder or are cutting yourself, tell someone who cares about you and can help you!
