can thirteen year-olds be bipolar? i know it could just be because im a teenager, but its like im PMSing 24/7. its not only my parents im mean to, but its my friends- which is the reason i really dont think its just because im a moody teenager. ive never been like this, and bipolarness does run in my family. like one minute im happy and the next minute im depressed and want to die for no reason. or ill be laughing and messing around and then ill want to kill somebody. its not that bad to where like people think im psyco.. im just really bItchy. im losing friends and my boyfriend of two years is getting tired of my moodiness. i want to know whats wrong with me. and please dont be mean. im 100% serious about this.

It could be just being a teenager and then it could also be bipolar. As you have a family history of the disorder and knowing it is genetic this will put you at higher risk then the general population of having the disorder. The only thing I can say to do is talk with your parents. bipolar is not just about being what you said ***** its far more then that but to be on the safe side talk with your parents. take care good luck
it’s hormones, honey…
Yes you can be bi-polar at 13 but it sounds like your are just going through the changes we all go through when becoming an adult. If you really are that worried have your mom take you to see your doctor and if she wont then bring it up the next time you are at his or her office.
being that your thirteen its possible that u cud b bipolar but u cud also b experiencing a hormone change id check it out 2 b 100% positive
Typically, bipolar symptoms manifest in one’s 20s, but it can occur earlier. But what you are describing is more likely teenage moodiness associated with hormonal changes occurring in your body. Individuals with bipolar disorder go through cycles that are extreme highs (manic) where you think you are invincible, life is glorious, and you are happy, happy, happy and really energetic. Then there are the periods of depression that can last for days or weeks. These cycles happen 1-2 times a year unless you are classified as a rapid cycler (about 20% of those with bipolar) which is about 4 times a year. So when you say you have mood swings, it makes me think you are simply a typical teenager. There are things that you can do that can make you feel better, like eliminating sugar from your diet, getting at least 8-10 hrs sleep a night, making sure that you have quiet time to yourself, and always keeping in mind that you control whether you want to allow your moods to be the reason for treating the people around you like dirt or you push yourself to treat them lovingly even though you don’t feel like it.
But if you think you may have bipolar disorder, ask you parents to make an appointment with a psychologist, who will want to see you during both when you are depressed and when you are manic. If you think you may just be depressed, it would still be a good idea to see a doctor–there are medications that can even out your moods so that you don’t have to suffer so much.
Yes, you can get bipolar disorder at an early age. You can get bipolar as early as 2 years old. But you need to see a mental health professional for a real answer, they can tell you if you really have it. If it runs in your family then you could have it, but only a professional could tell you for sure and help you find ways to "level out" your moodiness.
